i also have the same problem. i have a 1tb usb flash drive. i put the windows 10 iso on it and then started the windows 10 install. it actually gets to the install screen, and then says that it needs to restart the computer. when it does i can boot into windows 10 from the flash drive. but it doesn't do that until i've restarted my computer 5 or 6 times.
i have tried using a different flash drive and the same result happens. once i get to the install screen the restart the computer. so i can boot into linux from the flash drive, but then i have to restart the computer for windows to start. but windows doesn't seem to be able to boot from the flash drive. i've also tried setting the bios to boot from the flash drive. still doesn't work. the only thing i've been able to boot from is the ssd drive.
i made this bootable usb using boot-repair-efi (for windows 7, 8.1, and 10). i am trying to install windows 10 on my usb drive using the windows installer, but i keep getting error messages. i have tried to install windows 8.1 and 8.1 pro, as well as windows 10 on multiple computers, and am getting the same error. specifically, i keep getting an error message that says "bootmgr is missing. press ctrl+alt+del to restart." i have tried to check the integrity of the usb, which was created using the instructions from the boot-repair-efi documentation, and found no errors. i have tried to run the windows 10 installer on the usb using boot-repair-efi, but i keep getting an error message that says "the windows boot manager is missing, and cannot be located on the selected disk. insert a windows installation disc, or other media, and press any key to boot from that medium." i have read that boot-repair-efi can be used to create a bootable windows 10 installation disk. this is not a case, as i have already created a bootable windows 10 installation disk using windows 10's own built-in disc creator. thank you for your help. 3d9ccd7d82
